Welcome

The 2018 Governor’s Leadership Foundation opening retreat got off to a great start with the telling of My Stories to help build the bonds between participants as well as interactive sessions on Adaptive Leadership and Myers-Briggs and their meaning for how we operate as leaders.

The three-day session, held at Mt Lofty House, also included a deep delve into the results of The Leadership Circle 360 degree feedback and an understanding of Immunity to Change and what is holding people back.
A powerful session has also been held on Challenging Racism and Cultural Fitness where Relationships Australia drew parallels between activities showcasing participant’s culture and the experiences of Aboriginal Australians.

Leadership Thinking
How many Australians? The size of Australia’s population is a complex social issue that bubbles to the surface from time to time and has recently been aired in the popular media via Channel 10’s The Project and also covered by the ABC’s Four Corners and Q&A.

During the Q&A debate Tim Flannery suggested that infrastructure decisions be made by randomly selected people. This has been suggested by Frederic Laloux in his book Reinventing Organizations: A Guide to Creating Organizations Inspired by the Next Stage of Human Consciousness where he references Ken Wilbur’s integral theories which we explore during the GLF. Watch the debate here on Q and A.

Disruption – is it good for us?
Another issue discussed in recent times is the hype around disrupters. Are they a positive force and is it a new way of thinking? This interesting debate references the disruption caused by Uber and asks if someone’s disruption is someone else’s profit margin or is it just about winding back regulation? When does the embrace of disruption become a problem rather than a solution? Click here to read the ABC’s article or listen to the Podcast.

Our 2018 key programs

Leaders Institute of SA
Our first Leading Edge Peer Mentoring Program gets underway in May with a second program starting in July. The program provides a safe environment for a small group of participants to bring their real world challenges for discussion and to gain practical ideas on applying leadership thinking to tackle the challenges. It has proven useful for anyone, including people who have done the GLF some years ago and want a refresher and to reconnect with a strong peer group of support. Click here for more information.
Our Integral Leader program helps participants build the capacity to create innovative, collaborative and sustainable solutions to leadership challenges. Modules include leading teams and communication for change. The 11.5 day program begins on June 5 and is aimed at helping leaders become more strategic decision makers and effective change leaders. Click here for more information.
