Under our Rules, two of the Leaders Institute’s Board Members are chosen by you so this is your chance to influence the focus and capabilities of our Board.

There are five nominees for the two positions which start in May for a two-year term. Statements and pictures of your five candidates are below.

Scott Mosen 
FGLF 2019

I am passionate about purpose-led organisations and building better communities. This has led me to offer my skills and experience to the Leaders Institute Board.

My current role is Manager - individual and community fundraising and business development for Guide Dogs SA/NT. I have also led key projects as National Director Business Development and Innovation, National Heart Foundation. This included changes to the call centre which increased awareness and use across Australia. I secured grant funding to automate heart health literature distribution using chat bots, which significantly reduced costs.

 

Before entering the NFP sector I was Diamonds Camera and Video GM, responsible for four retail sites and up to fifty employees. This role included all aspects of multi-site retail management such as sales, marketing, inventory management, online retail, negotiating supplier contracts and business development. I currently volunteer as Secretary for the Adelaide Business Collective, an NFP representing businesses within the City of Adelaide. Our purpose is to advocate to local government for change to improve how we promote, support and drive business across the city.

I believe my business development skills and ability to innovate and grow organisations will be a valuable addition to the Leaders Institute Board.

Michelle Peterson
FGLF 2014

I completed the GLF in 2014 and joined the Leaders Institute Board in 2016 as a GLF Alumni elected Board Member. I am re-nominating for my final two year term as I am keen to provide stability as the other GLF Alumni elected member is stepping down.

 
My Board expertise includes governance, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, communications, change management and problem solving. Having graduated from the MBA and the Australian Institute of Company Directors course, I believe I have a strong knowledge of modern Board governance in all aspects. I am also a non-executive director on The For Good Foundation, which is a small not-for-profit working in the domestic violence space, founded by GLF Alumni Marina Pullin.

I am currently the Chair of the GLF Compliance Committee; this requires facilitating agreement between the committee members with consideration to the circumstances, ensuring consistency in application of exemptions to uphold the intent of the program being experiential. I want to continue to be a strong advocate for the GLF alumni and provide an important perspective at Board discussions in regard to our sustainability, purpose, objectives, branding and ongoing engagement with alumni.

Russell D'Costa
FGLF 2019

I am committed to making our community a better place for all, which can be evidenced by my current volunteer roles within the profit-for-purpose sector, including non-Executive Director appointments with Gymnastics Australia, Life Education SA, and Project 6 Foundation.

 
Within these board roles, I am currently providing strategic leadership, governance advice, and critical decision making, to ensure the organisations successfully navigate the complex current and future environment as a result of the global COVID-19 Pandemic. My Non-Executive Director experience is supported by an MBA and qualification as a Company Director (GAICD) through the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

I believe my established networks within the South Australian community, coupled with extensive experience in business development and philanthropy within my current role as Senior Manager, Strategy and Business Development with the Centre for Cancer Biology, will enable me to contribute to the Leaders Institute successfully navigating these challenging times, and thriving in the future.

Monika Sikora
FGLF 2010

Monika is a senior executive with 20 years of experience in leading, advising and effecting change across wide ranging industries in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

Her recent roles have included developing innovative digital solutions to improve client and staff experience, driving efficiency and transformational change across the Australian Taxation Office, setting up governance frameworks and successfully managing the delivery of highly complex programs.

 

During her career she has developed strong local, national and global networks and has held various board appointments including recently as a member of the CPA Australia Divisional Council, South Australia.

Following the highly challenging, positive life altering experience of GLF Monika has ensured that she uses her expertise, connections and passion for South Australia to continuously improve living standards and opportunities for people living within our community.

Having participated in a number of leadership development programs since GLF, Monika continues to actively promote the GLF as it remains unmatched in preparing leaders to meet the adaptive challenged, we face today. Monika is looking forward to further shaping and contributing to the Leaders Institute’s vision and driving positive change and prosperity for our great state of South Australia.

Iain Hay
FGLF 2000

Iain is a distinguished strategic leader with military, university, and not-for-profit governance experience and also presents the Institute with a compelling background in leadership development, adult education, and a demonstrated commitment to a just and sustainable society.

 
Iain holds Fellowships with the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Institute of Managers and Leaders. He has a master’s qualification in Management plus two doctoral degrees. His academic expertise includes geographies of oppression/domination, environmental management, and tertiary education. He also has longstanding interests in professional development and ethics.

Iain has held a number of senior university roles, including as a foundation Dean (Education) of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Flinders University. He is a recipient of the Prime Minister’s award for Australian University Teacher of the Year.

Professor Hay is currently Vice-President of the International Geographical Union. He also holds a number of national and SA advisory roles, including with the Australian Academy of Science, SACE, and the Adelaide Hills Council.

Iain is passionate about supporting the Institute in its continuing quest to provide unique and unforgettable development experiences for our State’s leaders, coupled with lifelong support for them, so that SA thrives.
